Dream Count | Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

I read Americanah when it came out and loved it. I gotta say, I didn't love this one, as much as I wanted to. The story centers around Chiamaka, a writer, novelist/travel writer, and she's feeling very trapped by the pandemic. The pandemic is now the backdrop (not surprising) for many novels now. Maybe because it was hard time for so many people, including me, I'm not that excited to read about it? Maybe so. We learn about Chia's relationships with men (her family is always bothering her about getting married), and we also learn about the lives of her closest women friends. The book is not an upper, let's just say that. There's loss and sadness but also strength in how these women get through their lives. The writing is very strong and it has a lot of interesting information about the culture of Nigeria (which is complicated, to say the least) but I can't say I'd read it again.
