Everyone and their next door neighbor has written about this book, so I don't know that I can add much value to that discussion. Other than to say that everyone should read this book. In fact, it was the Everybody Reads book for our local library. It's a masterpiece and and besides that, it's extremely timely and important. As immigrants are increasingly and without foundation being characterized as criminals, this book shows the humanity behind the headlines. People who are just trying to get by and build a better life for their families. The story of a 9-year old boy navigating this trip without his family, and the family he found along the way. It's harrowing and terrifying and heartening, all at the same time.
