The Eyre Affair | Jasper Fforde

I first heard about the Thursday Next series from Jasper Fforde years ago from my friend, Kim. The concept is so mind-blowingly innovative I fell in love with them immediately. Thursday Next is detective within books, making sure that no one is messing with the stories. How cool is that? Fforde also wrote two books about the Nursery Crimes Division. The Fourth Bear and The Big Over Easy are great.

His work is oh-so-British and very fun to read. When I'm bookless, I'll often pick up one of these. The Eyre Affair must be read first in the Thursday Next series, and it's best to read them in order. Lost in a Good Book, The Well of Lost Plots, Something Rotten, First Among Sequels, One of Our Thursday Is Missing, The Woman Who Died A Lot, and coming in 2025, Dark Reading Matter. Forewarned that I read Shades of Gray and found it very dark and, frankly, less fun than the others which are escapist/fantasy (not really my genre, but I'm flexible). I see that he also has a newer book out called Red Side Story which seems to be on the darker side, as well.
