I've Tried Being Nice | Anne Leary

I don't always love collections of personal essays but somewhere along the line I read a review about this and it seemed like a good idea to read it. And I really liked it. First of all, Anne Leary is very funny and self-deprecating. The essays aren't overly long. They're not syrupy or overly philosophical. They're just interesting. Anne is married to Denis Leary who, you may recall is an actor who plays some volatile characters, like The Ref. Anne led his wild life right along with him and has some scars, stories, addiction and recovery to show for it. Their life is nothing like mine (being a movie star and all) but I could connect with some of her stories and found all of them engaging and fun to read. I especially liked her story about knitting.

The book is a slim volume and goes down easy. It's a nice change of pace from my fictional path and far less serious than other nonfiction that I may pick up. Highly recommended.
