The Wildes | Louis Bayard

I've never read any of this author's books but I've seen The Importance of Being Earnest several times and, let's face it, who doesn't enjoy that show?? As is so often the case, I read a review some time ago and completely forgot why I thought this was interesting. But I really liked it. It's a fictionalized account of Oscar Wilde's family after his arrest and imprisonment for indecent exposure in the 1890s. And it had a huge impact on the family. The story is true, the writing is great. Even long before the cancel-culture and scourge of social media, the Wilde family had a rough time of it after Oscar was sent away. I'm not going to retell the story here but it's definitely worth reading.
