Things You Save in a Fire (and other titles) | Katherine Center

I'm not going to lie. I like a good "candy read" now and again and a slightly cheesy romance is just what the librarian ordered for this girl recently. So I picked up a couple of books by Katherine Center, specifically The Love Haters and Things You Save in a Fire. Ends up I'd read The Rom-Commers earlier. They all fit the bill of a light, fast read with a happy, sweet, satisfying ending. In terms of story, I'd have to say that I like Things You Save in a Fire the best because it dealt with more timely and real issues (sexual and workplace harassment) instead of a more unrealistic situation like a multi-week video shoot in Key West (Love Haters) or a plum writing assignment for a TV writer in Hollywood with an industry legent (Rom-Commers).

Center is incredibly skilled at writing a readable book. It's a real page turner even when you know deep inside exactly what's going to happen. The books are romances but are pretty squeaky clean so they're not spicy in that way, but they're sweet in the romantic PG-13 kind of way. They're pretty darn predictable even as they're pretty darn over-the-top coincidence-laden. They're not mysteries, let's just say that.

But if you're looking for a cozy read that absolutely requires a cup of tea and a comfy chair, these are your books!.
